The Law Enforcement Explorer Post is a cooperative effort between the Amherst County Sheriff's Office and the Learning for Life Programs/Boy Scouts of America. Its main purpose is to expose interested high school students to a career in law enforcement.

This is accomplished by the Explorer actively participating in ride-alongs with deputy's assigned to the Field Operations, Corrections and the communications center.  The post also takes field trips to various law enforcement sites such as the regional police academy, the State Forensics Lab, and various federal sites.

Membership is open to Amherst County students between 15 and 20 years old who are of good moral character, have no criminal history, and have a C average in all classes. Home school students are also encouraged to apply.

Interested students should obtain an application from the Amherst High School SRO Deputy Ferguson or the Crime Prevention Office or check our CONTACT page.
