The Special Response Team was formed in the fall of 1996 when Sheriff Ayers realized that there was a need for a team of specially trained and equipped deputies to serve search warrants and high risk arrest warrants.  The Special Response Team is comprised of 13 law enforcement trained deputy’s and officers from the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Amherst Police.  In addition there are two volunteer Paramedics who are sworn as Special Deputies and have undergone the same tactical training as the other members.
